Charlotte Grierson

Charlotte Grierson obtained a degree in Woven Textile Design at Manchester Polytechnic before returning to South East London where she grew up. She began her career designing fabrics for an agent before developing a range of handwoven scarves.  Later in 2003 Charlotte completed an MA in Textiles at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is a member of both the Art Worker’s Guild and the Society of Designer Craftsmen.
Sampling and experimenting is at the heart of Charlotte’s practice. Working with materials, colour and the structure of the weave to create patterns and textures. Her inspiration comes from a range of sources; structures in natural forms, and colours from her surroundings and also by 20th Century painters.

Jigsaw and Rib are Charlotte Grierson’s collection of colourful mill woven scarves. Designed and sampled in her London studio these scarves are woven in heart of the old Welsh woollen industry, on traditional power looms. Woven in 100% lambswool the gently felted finish brings out the softness of the wool making them cosy and warm for winter. Back in her studio Charlotte hand finishes each scarf, including the hand twisted pearl fringes.
